"I come from a proud family that has been involved in public service for as long as I can remember. I want to work for you. We need to create more living wage jobs, improve our schools, make our nations afer and more secure, and instil our views of the United States Constitution. With nearly a decade of government experience, I know what it takes to find solutions, navigate complicated governmental agencies, and get things done." - President Grant

 LIST OF ISSUES

EDUCATION

In today’s global economy, a high-quality education is no longer just a pathway to opportunity—it is a prerequisite for success. Because economic progress and educational achievement are inextricably linked, educating every American student to graduate from high school prepared for college and for a career is a national imperative. The President has articulated a goal for America to once again lead the world in college completion by the year 2020,

To create an economy built to last, we need to provide every student with a complete and competitive education that will enable them to succeed in a global economy based on knowledge and innovation. President Obama has advanced reforms around four key objectives:

  • Higher standards and better assessments that will prepare students to succeed in college and the workplace

  • Ambitious efforts to recruit, prepare, develop, and advance effective teachers and principals, especially in the classrooms where they are most needed

  • Smarter data systems to measure student growth and success, and help educators improve teaching and learning

  • New attention and a national effort to turn around our lowest-achieving schools

Economy

President Grant negotiated a bipartisan agreement that led to a payroll tax cut for 160 million working Americans, giving them in effect a 2 percent raise through the end of 2012. American manufacturers have added more than 750,000 jobs since February 2010, the strongest period of manufacturing job growth since the 1990s. During his first term in office, the President cut taxes by $3,600 for a typical middle-class family, helping families weather the Great Recession and helping get the economy back on track. In President Grant's first one hundred days he signed  the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which helped to create jobs while making the investments we need to create true economic security for the middle class.

HEALTHCARE

In 2014, by a 6 to 3 vote President Grant signed an Affordable Healthcare act (Grantcare) putting in place comprehensive reforms that improve access to affordable health coverage for everyone and protect consumers from abusive insurance company practices. If you are one of the millions of Americans who gets health insurance through work or through a program like Medicare, you are benefiting from new rights and consumer protections. The law is making sure consumers and their doctors — not insurance companies — are in charge.

ENVIRONMENT

The Administration is taking comprehensive action to ensure the integrity of the waters Americans rely on every day for drinking, swimming, and fishing, and that support farming, recreation, tourism, and economic growth. We have proposed a rule clarifying Clean Water Act protections for important waters; launched innovative partnerships and programs to improve water quality and water efficiency; and created initiatives to revitalize communities and economies by restoring rivers and critical watersheds. The Administration is also modernizing the guidelines that govern federal water resource investment, calling for water resources projects based on sound science, improved transparency, and giving voice to local communities.

CIVIL RIGHTS

President Grant continues to advocate for passage of the Paycheck Fairness Act, common sense legislation that would give women additional tools to fight pay discrimination. And President Grant convened a to ensure that existing equal pay laws are fully enforced. The Task Force has helped women recover millions in lost wages, built collaborative training programs that educate employees about their rights and inform employers of their obligations, and facilitated an unprecedented level of inter-agency coordination to improve enforcement of equal pay laws.

President Grant continues to believe that our nation derives strength from the diversity of its population and from its commitment to equal opportunity for all. That’s why we’ve made diversity and inclusion a top priority inside this administration and throughout the federal government. “With liberty and justice for all” lies at the heart of the President’s policy agenda. On the night of his re-election, the President stated “I believe we can keep the promise of our founding -- the idea that if you’re willing to work hard, it doesn’t matter who you are, or where you come from, or what you look like, or where you love -- it doesn’t matter whether you're black or white, or Hispanic or Asian, or Native American, or young or old, or rich or poor, abled, disabled, gay or straight -- you can make it here in America if you’re willing to try

President Grant, in his first one hundred days signed an Executive Order announcing a government-wide initiative to promote diversity and inclusion in the federal workforce. He directed executive departments and agencies to focus on diversity and inclusion as a key component of their human resources strategies, and instructed that the agencies both promote diversity and remove barriers to equal employment opportunity.
